<p>Since many people have trouble getting to sleep, many people rely on nighttime sleep aids.  These sleep aids range the entire gambit from chemical to natural to behavioral.  Since technically you could develop a psychological addition to any kind of activity (think of superstitions, for instance), all sleep aids are technically addictive.  However, when you look at behavioral sleep aids they generally seem to be healthy, not addictive.  For instance, some people like to do ten minutes of yoga before they go to bed.  Other people take a hot bath and read a chapter of a book.  Still others put on a certain playlist of soothing music or even turn on an ambient noise machine.  People rely on these nighttime sleep aids but in a healthy, rather than addictive, way.</p>
<p>There are also many natural nighttime sleep aids that we can rely on.  Herbal tea is probably the most popular of these healthy choices.  Chamomile, sage, lemon grass, or valerian teas all soothe you and make you feel drowsy.  As cliché as drinking a glass of warm milk sounds, milk contains a natural substance called tryptophan that helps your brain to slow down and puts you to sleep.  You can also get this from turkey and other dairy products.  Another natural substance that acts as a nighttime sleep aid is melatonin.  It is produced by your glands when you are sleeping, but if you need to drop off to sleep quickly or adjust your body to the rigors of a night shift, it is a non-addictive, healthy nighttime sleep aid that we should rely on to give consistent results every time.</p>
<p>The sleep aids that have gotten the bad rap for being addictive are over the counter and doctor prescribed chemical sleeping pills.  These have come a long way in the past thirty years in terms of having benign side effects, but all of these nighttime sleep aids should not be relied on.  They can be addictive, both psychologically and chemically.  When taken every once in a while, they are an effective way to bring about sleep, but they should not be relied on every night.  You should also check with your doctor to see if you might experience any side effects due to prior medical conditions.  If you plan on using a nighttime sleep aid like this one, consider getting an over the counter anti-histamine like Benadryl.</p>
<p>If you are one of those who wonder if we should rely on nighttime sleep aids, you can rest easy knowing that any method used in moderation should produce a safe and deep night’s sleep.</p>

<p>There&#8217;s many things that cause us insomnia, such as stress, depression, excitement and worries.   We need to deal with all those problems through the waking hours so our mind is calm and our body can rest.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s things we do so we are able to get a good night sleep such as drinking warm milk, reading a book or increase our exercises during the day.  Yoga and meditation also helps.</p>
<p>Sometimes insomnia is cause by our lack of breathing and the comfort of our bed.  In the olden days people used to believe that a hard bed is great for sleeping and cure lower back pains.  However after years of research it is proven that a hard bed makes it worse for our posture,  as our spine is not straight.</p>
<p>Do what you need to get a good night sleep.  It&#8217;s never too late to start now.  Do not let insomnia take over your sleep.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Ever wonder what REM sleep behavior disorder is?  Well, when you go to sleep every night, you go through different sleep cycles.  Some of the time your body and mind are completely at rest and at other times your mind is just as active as when it is awake.  This latter phase of sleep is called the REM cycle.  REM stands for rapid eye movement.  It happens during the time of the night when you are dreaming.  Your brain becomes active, your eyes move, your breathing quickens, and your muscles become mildly paralyzed.  This paralysis happens so that your body won’t act out the events that are taking place in your mind.  However, if you suffer from REM sleep behavior disorder you will find yourself acting out portions of your dreams.</p>
<p>While it is often amusing to watch a sleeping dog running and salivating and speculate on the content of his dreams, when a human’s REM sleep is disturbed there can be much more serious consequences.  Most people that suffer from REM sleep behavior disorder display their symptoms in a violent manner.  This can either cause danger to themselves or their sleeping partner.  Sufferers may fail, punch, kick, or jump when they are in their REM cycle.  This action isn’t specifically directed at anything in their physical world but it can still be injurious.  Depending on an individual’s physical strength, he or she can actually break bones or furniture during episodes of their REM sleep behavior disorder.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, the cause of this <a href="http://www.sleepdiscussion.com/shift-work-sleep-disorder/" target="_self">sleep disorder</a> is thus far unknown.  Doctors think that it is probably correlated with other neurological disorders as a significant percentage of people who experience REM disorder eventually end up suffering from Parkinson’s disease as well.  Most of these people are middle-aged and elderly men, though every type of person can experience REM sleep behavior disorder.  Younger sufferers will often display symptoms for a period of time following a traumatic or stressful event.  After the vivid memory of the trauma fades, the symptoms will also fade.</p>
<p>For some people, medication is a good option to decrease the symptoms of this disorder.  Other people have benefited from therapy.  However, while a medicine called Clonazepam suppresses or reduces symptoms in a majority of patients, there is no standardized treatment at the present moment.  Instead, people are advised to keep their sleeping environment as benign as possible.  For instance, a mattress on the floor is much safer than a standard bed and frame as one cannot fall out of bed nor can one injure oneself on a metal or wooden frame.  Surrounding the sleeping area with pillows and blankets while at the same time removing any sharp edges and hard surfaces are also good ways to keep people suffering from REM sleep behavior disorder safe.  This person should also sleep alone until the symptoms have passed.</p>
<p>Depending on the individual the symptoms will strengthen or lessen in severity in a cyclical fashion or they will keep increasing to the point where a sufferer will need to get medical attention.  Even if medication does work, the symptoms will return if the dosage is lessened.  Therefore <em>REM sleep behavior disorder</em> is a chronic disease whose cure has thus far evaded doctors.</p>
